Seems like a long shot, but Tim McMahon is writing about it. He also has some Shaq follow-up. I'm not real high on him coming here. Seems like more glam than substance.
Last night's game was sick, Mavs have been on quite a roll. We're not the only ones who get down on our teams after one game, this headline in Salt Lake City sums it up. Check out how they have the teams listed in the West at the bottom of the article - Dallas ahead of Utah, even though Utah clearly owns the tie-breaker right now.
But I'd really like to talk about the Rangers. Last night's game was great, even up to The Opener about letting the game go in the 8th. I thought for sure he was going to give up a game tying jack. That ball that Andrus hit out was smoked. What a smooth swing. I could get used to him. I don't think Nelson Cruz is going to hit 162 HRs this year, but there is no reason why he can't be a .280/.350/.550 guy.
Also, check out these guys that might get a free car if the Rangers keep winning and the Yankees keep losing.

CP3- no way... They couldn't be dumb enough to trade him, can they?
ReplyDeleteRangers- heard they are 2-0. Enjoy it boys. Happies Ranger fans will be all season.
The argument for CP3 is that NO has no money and their owner is very biz minded. McMahon paints a picture where Cuban can save NO $100M over the next few years. It would include us taking on Peja...
ReplyDeleteFrom the Utah article:
ReplyDelete"They were so much quicker than we [were], we looked like we had been on the road for 10 months," Sloan said.
Exactly what we saw while watching the game.
The likelihood of the Mavs acquiring Chris Paul is on par with me winning the lotto this weekend.
ReplyDeleteHowever since its been put out there, I'll share my thoughts.
If we can make this happen with the pieces that McMahon suggests, I'd be ecstatic.
Could you imagine Dirk with Paul running the point..unreal potential.
These worsening economic times combined with the half empty arena you see from time at Hornets home games gives this post some legs, even if they are flimsy.
But I just can't see NO gutting the team to save some cash. You'd go from half empty arena to completely empty.
I wonder if the Mavs really did make the offer before the trade deadline and if they offered Kidd in the deal.
The one danger here is a disgruntled Kidd. I hope this potential dream trade doesn't get to Kidd and impact his decision this summer.
As far as Rangers...Elvis is alive.
Wow, there is a lot of meat here, so I am not sure exactly where to start:
ReplyDeleteThere is enough plausibility in the argument that it gives the Mavs fans hope, however I see this more as a Clemens to the Rangers, Lakers Shaq to the Mavs type situation...there will be pieces to the argument that if twisted the right make the deal look plausible, however I just don't see the NBA essentially allowing the Hornets to destroy their franchise by trading all of their best players for cash, especially in a market like New Orleans where they have tried so hard to become part of the community post Katrina. I see them moving the franchise before they allow CP3 to leave. Worst case scenario the NBA buys the franchise and runs it for a few years until the economy improves.
Like I said last night, it really seems like Carlisle has settled on his rotations and because of this the players clearly understand their roles and are playing with increased confidence.
What do JET, JJB, Bass, and Singleton all have in common? They are all terrific energy guys. It seems that each time the Mavericks start to lull, one of them comes in a pumps up the team. Last night it was JET in the first half and JJB in the second half.
I haven't been this excited about the start of the Rangers season since the magical 2004 89-73 season.
The offense is a juggernaut. They will have a few slumps, but IMO this might be the best 1-9 in the majors.
Millwood was brilliant in his first start, Padilla was OK. It starts getting a little dicey after those guys, but if McCarthy can give them something their top 3 is good enough to keep them competitive.
What else can you say about Elvis? Awesome D, and already hitting big league pitching. I still think anything over .250 this season is good enough.
I hate the Opener, but for some reason I am strangely drawn to him...its like watching a train wreck waiting to happen and I just can't take my eyes off of it.
There is so much to like with this team...
Make sure you guys check out the "free car" link I posted above. Even more reason to root for the Rangers and hate on the Yankees.
ReplyDeleteYea, but its a Honda...don't they give those away all the time anyway
