  1. Thoughts from the game today:

    1) I was late to the game, so I caught the first few innings on the radio. Listening to Nadel on FM (Live 105.3) was odd, to say the least. There's something about baseball and AM radio - you kinda need that "in the box" sound. Over FM it sounded like Nadel was the bum next to me in the bleachers, rather than the regular guy who gets to be on the inside. Barnett sounded okay, though either he was nervous in the first few innings, or Nadel was chocked full of Red Bulls and 8 balls, b/c Nadel barely let Barnett say hello, much less offer any color.

    2) President Bush was in the booth for the bottom of the 2nd, he's a baseball guy, through and through. Told some good anecdotes.

    3) The Ballpark was PACKED. I have never seen the ballpark this crowded, nor this full of energy. I parked closer to the Judge Roy Scream than I did the Ballpark. The roar of the crowd when Andrus turned that DP to end the first was contagious, even over the radio. The reds looked good, they'll be on display on Saturdays only.

    4) Of all the stars of today's game, the game ball has to go to Millwood. 123 pitches proves that Nolan wasn't screwing around when he shot those monkeys, and he wasn't lying when he said F pitch counts. Millwood + contract year = 17 wins.

    5) I didn't see Captain anywhere, but I think that he might have been taping something for the MLB network.

    6) The place was a zoo after the game. College Football type zoo. I have never seen so many people tailgating at a baseball game. All the colleges were represented, special props to the Tech boys who seemed to be drunker than everyone else though they had a 5 hour drive home. Took me an hour to get out of the parking lot. Great showing by the fans. I think that everyone is very, very excited about 1) the young guys and 2) that the Rangers are finally sticking to a plan.
