Cell Phone or Car?
This post isn't sports related, just something that has been bugging me for a while. Catchy marketing names have gotten out of control. Do marketing people really think that a cool, catchy name is really going to sell more products? Cell phones are the worst at this. I don't think people buy a phone because it has a "catchy/hip" name like the LG Rhythm or the the Samsung Gleam. It is more about functionality and tools not meaningless buzzwords. Do people say "Ooh, I must have the new Chocolate" or "Isn't the new LG Rumor just great"? I just don't get it.
With that being said here is the first (and possibly last) edition of Cell Phone or Car?
Below is a list of 10 catchy buzzwords. The object is to guess if it is a cell phone, a car, both, or neither. Here we go:
1.) Storm
2.) Vue
3.) Shine
4.) Fusion
5.) Incite
6.) G1
7.) Synergy
8.) Versa
9.) Invision
10.) Aspire
I'll send out the answers later in the day.

I agree that product names are a tad bit ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteHowever, remember that the purpose of these names is to differentiate products in a cluttered market place.
The most efficient means to do that is by giving your product a name that clearly identifies some of its differentiators. At times this is difficult b/c you don't want to use technical jargon that might alienate your product from the consumer.
Plus, all the names that are the most direct and make the most sense are already taken and copywritten 98% of the time.
Most of the time naming a product becomes an exercise in perseverance, which many companies fail. Often resulting in a give up name such as, Chocolate or Rumor.
That concludes my sharing of useless information.
Now here are my guesses:
1.) Storm-Car
2.) Vue-Phone
3.) Shine-Phone
4.) Fusion-Car
5.) Incite-Car
6.) G1-Car
7.) Synergy-Phone
8.) Versa-Car
9.) Invision-Phone
10.) Aspire-Car
I kinda like the names...
